4 Natural remedies for sinus infection

4 Natural remedies for sinus infection

1. Use of natural herbs

The use of herbs as a natural remedy has been used for a longer time and has worked effectively helping clear the excess mucus. The herbs work by dissolving the congested mucus and making it light for easy elimination. Some of the commonly used and effective herbs include the onion, horseradish, garlic and cayenne pepper. The herbs are usually included in foods and soups and taken together with the food.
The horseradish is known to be a powerful remedy especially when taken raw. It is usually crushed before mixing it with lemon juice and eating. It works effectively and very fast, you may have to be near a sink before your nose starts running. The Japanese horseradish is usually in a form of a paste and is taken together with meals to quickly release nasal passages.

2. Change your diet

You may have to change your diet during the infection period. Foods that lead to formation of mucus should be avoided at all costs. Such foods usually include chocolate, eggs, fried foods, dairy products, foods with a lot of sugars and flour products. Instead start eating food like lightly cooked vegetables, cold pressed oils, soup and more of the whole grain foods. This is not the time to eat a lot food, instead eat moderately and drink a lot of water.
3. Grapefruit seed extract

This is a powerful antibiotic and is used to prevent the growth of microbes, viruses, bacteria and fungi of up to 30 types including the Candida yeast. The extract can be bought from your nearest drug store or can be obtained naturally from the grapefruit. The extract is usually in a form of a spray and can be directly be sprayed into your nose if the blockage is too much.

4. Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar works well if used immediately after the infection. Once you notice the first sign of infection, take 1 to 2 tablespoons of raw apple cider vinegar and put it into 6 ounces of water. The cider vinegar should be put without filtering. I should caution you, this will feel bitter but then the effect is worthy. But you can still add a tablespoon of raw honey to help sweeten the mixture before taking it. This mixture should be taken 3 to 4 times a day for 5 days.
The vinegar will help thin out the mucus helping it to be easily eliminated.
